Who is the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists?
National certification and registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is a voluntary process for radiologic technologists. However, to be employed throughout the United States, most employers and state licensing agencies require proof of ARRT registration. To be able to sit for ARRTs national board exam, individuals must have meet and passed an educational curriculum of didactic and clinical courses. In addition to the $250 certifying exam fee, individuals must attest to very high ethical standards when performing work in any area of medical imaging. Licensed technologists renew their certification every two years. With every renewal comes a mandatory compliance of 24 continuing education credits. Those that do not stay in compliance with the Standards of Ethics and Continuing Education Requirements run the risk of disciplinary action and being sanctioned, put on probation, or having their license revoked by the ARRT. Those that have meet all the requirements of the ARRT may designate themselves as Registered Radiologic Technologists and use the initials R.T. after their name.
